Disclaimer: This is not my own idea; I got the tip from the lovely Elentari-liv, who was kind enough to share her technique with me. This is only showing the basics I’ve used to knit the scales, not how to make any certain piece.
Also, keep in mind that I’m still a beginner at knitting. I’ve been doing it for approximately two weeks.
What you’ll need:
circular knitting needles
yarn
small scales
You’ll probably want to choose a yarn close to your scale colour, or one that complements it (I used a contrasting one here to make things easier to show). You may have to experiment a bit with the yarn gauge and size of the needles. I ended up using gauge three yarn and size six needles after some testing. Larger needles widened the gap between scales, so that the yarn was visible in between, which I didn’t want, and thicker yarn made the scales stick out too much as opposed to hanging. It looked like I was knitting a very ruffled dragon.
Scales can be purchased from The Ring Lord, with multiple choices of colour and material. I’ve experimented with both aluminum and steel; the steel seems to hang better because of its weight, but it all depends on what you need for your project!
(I’m putting the actual process under a read more because I do have a lot of photos.)
A lot of people already condemn and calling this teacher a bitch/monster on the comment/reblog, not knowing the whole story. It was actually the TEACHER who drew the beautiful art on the blackboard, and the teacher is a HE, he’s an accomplished artist who was trying to teach his students about the beauty of art and however changing it is. He will draw any arts by request from his students, the students will take some pictures, and then he erases it from the board, and make new ones. He’s not a monster. He’s actually trying to spark the students’ interest in art. Funny how a simple pic without context enrages people – and the people refusing to look beyond the story.
You can follow his artworks on Twitter @hamacream where he always posts/tweet his arts.
I one day wanna see a One Piece AU where everyone actually speaks different languages. Like, perhaps there’s a language that’s spoken in 95% of the world and everyone is bilingual. Luffy, Usopp, Zoro, and Nami all speak an East Blue dialect but even then they have slightly different words because every island is just slightly different, like every English speaking nation. Luffy occasionally throws in words from a noble language that they all think is really odd until they meet Sabo.
Sanji speaks three languages, having picked up the East dialect after running away from North Blue. Franky, Brook, and Chopper don’t speak any Eastern dialects at all and only speak the standard language. Brook used to speak a Western dialect but has since forgotten. Robin knows a bit of everything and is always learning more languages; the national language of Ohara is something she treasures.
The Celestial Dragons have their own language which is “holy” and no one but them is allowed to speak it. Law can only say two things in their language: “shit” and “fuck”. Also, imagine Flevance having its own language and Law is the only one who speaks it now. And Luffy calls him Torao because Law’s accent is difficult for Luffy to understand.
And accents! Everyone on the Grand Line has an accent. You can tell what sea they’re from just because of their accent. South Blue is different to North Blue to West Blue and so on.
