  • never take sex ed or any sort of sex life advice from somebody whose catchphrase is “my dearest perverts”

this applies to adults too tbh, but in specific if ur a minor and u have questions about this kind of thing, don’t learn from 1. comics like oh joy sex toy that have bad advice and issues with transphobia etc 2. creepy adults in general (if u have an adult ‘friend’ who keeps trying to talk to you about sex, Get Away From Them)

if u have questions that your parents or school classes didn’t answer then http://www.scarleteen.com/ is a really great resource aimed specifically at sex ed for teens and it has a lot of useful info in general!

scarleteen is SO GOOD please check them out!

Adjacent to sex ed, loveisrespect.com is also a useful website when considering topics like consent and healthy relationships.

(check out this post – it’s the source for slides #6 and #7!)

i basically wrote my bachelorthesis on this topic and yes, leave comments guys. this day and age everyone knows the feeling of not getting a single reaction on their post (no matter what plattform/artform) vs. the feeling of having someone leave you a sweet message. it’s worth your time, cause it means you’ll get more fic!

Honestly, I review every fic I read – every chapter of every fic I read actually! And it’s such a great way to make friends in the fandom, and to really make someone’s day by telling them how much you love their work and appreciate the time they’ve taken to write. And I know how much they’ll appreciate the comment.

You know why? Because I love getting comments on my stories too. I’m not ashamed to say that one of the best moments of my day is waking up and seeing that I have a comment on a chapter. If you’ve followed my fics and reviewed multiple chapters – I know your name. I look forward to hearing from you and finding out what you thought. I care what you think. I’ve even become friends with a bunch of you!

Reviews mean so much to writers!

this is so important.
We all put effort into our works and seeing it pass barely noticed breaks hearts and steals motivation to carry on.

i am super duper appreciative of ao3 and the shit they have to put up with for us assholes

but i’d really like to request a function where you can say ‘ok i want this pairing at this rating with this tag bUT I DONT WANNA SEE THIS VERY PARTICULAR TAG AND THIS VERY PARTICULAR TAG MIGHT BE DESTIEL’

This function exists! The links below all describe the same basic task (removing a tag from your search results), based on different goals or comfort levels with AO3. If you know AO3 really well, try the first 3 sets of links. If not so well, try the last 3. (Dizmo’s has pictures so is possibly easiest.)

Good luck, and drop me an ask if you get stuck!

Jan’s 7-Step Tutorial on how to filter out Characters and/or Relationships on AO3

Toasty’s shipping helper

Convenient round-up!

(Note that the first link contains some other nifty things you can do with the filters, like showing only one-shots, or works above a certain word count, or only your private bookmarks. o/)

I super recommend that once you find the perfect search string for you, you bookmark that search page. Then in the future you can go to that bookmark and re-run the search again, and see the new fics that have showed up without the stuff you don’t want.

just like a casual psa: as a filipino born and raised in the philippines, nothing pisses me off more than my ethnicity being collectively called “filipinx” like. we are not latinxs whose language is gendered or whose language history has led to the wide acceptance of the use of “latinxs”. filipino is a gender neutral language. we don’t use “she” or “he” for pronouns, we simply use “siya”. we don’t use the words “wife” or “husband”, we simply use “asawa”. FILIPINO IS A GENDER NEUTRAL LANGUAGE. stop applying western standards to make up some new collective term for filipinos. our identity as a people is fucked enough as it is with colonial mentality. nobody from the philippines actually uses “filipinx” in reference to themselves. using “-x” as a suffix in an attempt to be gender neutral while referring to my ethnicity as a whole does more harm than good bc it makes it seem like my own language is not enough when it, in fact, is. why make up a new term under the guise of gender neutrality when the language itself is already gender neutral to begin with? it doesn’t make sense.

if you wanna identify as “filipinx” bc of diasporia, that’s cool. that’s for YOU. but all i ask is to not use it to collectively refer to my ethnicity as a whole. it feeds into the colonial mentality that is so ingrained in our culture, where many filipinos conform to western standards in everything, from language to fashion to beauty, and it needs to end. we don’t need westerners making it harder for us to embrace ourselves. it’s hard enough as it is.

back in 2015, tumblr made me start using “filipinx” to refer to my people under the guise of gender neutrality. this made me forget this small but significant part of my own culture. it made me forget my own language. thank god there were people who made me stop and think and get out of the western mentality that is so deeply ingrained in me by society. what i don’t understand is how this trend is still being used to this day.

just. please. it’s 2017. call us who we are: filipino.

and to further my point, this has been already discussed here. if you’re one of the people still using ‘filipinx’ as a blanket term for my entire ethnicity, i beg you to read the link and understand.

Reading about abusive men and the way they think. Very unsettling and an incredible book so far. Here are my very professional notes.

what book is this?

This is from “Why Does He DO That” by Lundy Bancroft.

I’m so glad I’m seeing more and more Lundy Bancroft quotes on my dash because this book CHANGES THE LIVES OF ABUSE VICTIMS.

The programs run for rehabilitating abusive men through the courts? Bancroft DESIGNED THEM. His programs are replicated ALL OVER THE WORLD.
He literally wrote THE book on abuser rehabilitation.

Here’s a link to a pdf copy. If you haven’t read this book yet, read this book.

Can we talk about how it seems like the entirety of the book is online on PDF, this making it accessible to anyone with an internet connection?

That is how we stop abuse.

We enable everyone to know what it looks like, so that when it happens, they can shut it down.

Arm yrself with knowledge!

Changed my life, would reccomend.

Reblogging for the PDF link.

Always reblogging because this isn’t just a partner abuse thing, this is a common abuse tactic PERIOD: Parents, siblings, bosses, general assholes, etc…

new link (the old one is broken)

Pretty sure I’ve reblogged this like eight times, don’t care.

“Always reblogging because this isn’t just a partner abuse thing, this is a common abuse tactic PERIOD: Parents, siblings, bosses, general assholes, etc…”

Heads up guys. It moved again.

But if it breaks just use the sites custom search. :3 That’s how I found it.

It would be REALLY FUCKIN GREAT if white people, SPECIFICALLY WHITE PEOPLE, would call out colorism and whitewashing within fandom.

When you leave it just to poc, not only are we having to look at things that actively harm us, but we’re having to waste time and energy on educating people.

But not only that, every single time we call it out, and I mean EVERY time, we also have to deal with racists coming out of the woodwork and harassing us for us calling it out, even months or years later on this garbage hellsite.

What can you do as a white person?

• educate YOURSELF
• educate fellow white people
• call colorism out when you see it
• when you see a poc trying to call it out, support them. Maybe message them to see if they’re okay, and definitely join in in the callout publicly to show that racism isn’t acceptable. (Just don’t talk over poc)
• QUIT SUPPORTING ARTISTS THAT WHITEWASH. Don’t give the artists your uncritical reblogs. Don’t just reblog with commentary in the tags. That doesn’t help. Call it out or don’t reblog. Simple as that.
• if you see people harassing poc for calling colorism out, defend them. Maybe send the person nice stuff to cheer them up. I know it always lessens the burden for me when friends tag me in or message me cute stuff, even if they don’t have the ability to get into the fight. Support poc.
And perhaps most importantly:

Quit ignoring posts like these where poc ask you to be a better ally.

PSA: DON’T USE FLASH!!!! TO TAKE PHOTOS!!!!! IN MUSEUMS OR GALLERIES!!!!!!!

starkstricken:

katanamasako:

starkstricken:

so i was in front of Van Gogh’s Starry Night at the moma yesterday and this girl in front of me took a picture with the flash on (WHICH YOU DONT DO!!! EVER!!! BECAUSE FLASH IS TERRIBLE FOR PAINTINGS!!!! THERE WERE SIGNS EVERYWHERE SAYING NOT TO USE IT!!!!)

so i said “hey, dont use flash”

AND THIS MOLDY ASSBABY turns around, gives me the dirtiest look, takes ANOTHER photo WITH HER FLASH ON and fucking!!!! walks!!!! away!!!!!! and ive never come so close to beating the ever living shit out of someone before in my life.

Starry NIght is one of the most important, beloved works of art IN THE WORLD and youre such a entitled piece of shit that you risk damaging it just to get a fucking photo??????? and you know what? it doesnt even matter that it was starry night, ANY piece of art deserves to be shown safetly. just because an artist isnt famous doesnt mean you get to put their work in jeopardy. art is so fucking imporant to our histories and cultures, to our very humanity, and it makes me furious when people dont respect it.

this has been a psa from an angry art history student thank you and remember to turn off your flash

how it damages the painting is what I will now explain since OP just went on a rant but didn’t explain why it’s bad for paintings. Older paintings especially but also newer ones. Have you ever wandered why museum lighting is filtered into a dull yellow? Why it seems to be so dark but you don’t really pay it any mind until you step outside and you are instantly blinded by the sun?

Sunlight, full spectrum, will FADE paintings, and can even cause chemical reactions in some that cause flaking, particularly those that have been restored with certain compounds. YOU ARE LITERALLY ERASING THE ARTWORK WITH EACH FLASH.

White spectrum light is bad, blue spectrum is WORSE. light filtered through yellow filters seems to do less damage and that is why they ask you not to use flash. There are cameras now with settings for museums that disables the flash and still manage to pick out the artwork. For artists the world over, this is a huge chunk of history that can not be recreated once it is gone. Please. Respect the rules in a museum.

hi OP here, thank you for explaining!  I honestly didn’t realize so many people didn’t know how harmful it is, so originally my post was just because i was angry people were being willfully harmful. But i realize now that a lot of people don’t know, so educating is the key!!

If you opened your PayPal account before you were 18, and there’s ANY evidence of this, SHUT DOWN YOUR ACCOUNT AND USE YOUR REAL INFORMATION FOR A NEW ONE IF YOU NEED TO.

NO JOKE

PAYPAL IS SHUTTING DOWN ACCOUNTS THAT WERE OPENED BEFORE YOU WERE 18.

Sharing this here because I know this will affect a LOT of artists here.

PLEASE share this, this is super urgent and I don’t want any of you losing your funds.

Seriously, this is not a joke or scam. Check the comments of that Medium article, or the Reddit comments

Apparently PayPal will try to re-ban you if you use the same cards or whatnot, so if you need an alternative, try Google Wallet. (Because Google won’t let a damn industry go untouched.)

If you see your work as more as a business, try Stripe

PETA: They’d rather spend their money on publicity campaigns than on the animals in their care. PETA killed 73.8% of the animals in their care in 2015 (x)

FCKH8: Is a for-profit company that exploits oppressed groups for money. They’re also wildly uninformed, and spread misogyny, cissexism and bi/panphobia, as well as stealing their posts/designs (x)

Autism Speaks: They spend most of their money on researching a way to eliminate autism, heighten the stigma against autism and don’t have a single autistic person on their board (x)

Please support other, better charities, and feel free to add any others you can think of to this.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure: CEO makes insane amounts of money, they deny a lot of requests for wigs/help with treatment/etc., and have attempted to sue other charities that use the color pink as part of their anti-breast cancer campaign. ( x x x )

The Salvation Army: They promote the hatred of LGBT+ people, work with fundamentalist Christian groups to support conservative politics and rip off and exploit workers. ( x x x )

Wounded Warrior: They take money that should be spent on veterans and blow it on huge opulent parties for the company bigwigs. 26 million in 2014 alone wasted! ( x x x )

Fun Fact: Wasp spray is much more effective than pepper spray or mace and the creep that you spray will literally have to go to the hospital, unlike pepper spray that wears off. It stings more and literally it’s much cheaper and more accessible. I have a can in my car and I’ve never had to use it (thank god) but it doesn’t expire, all you have to do is give it a shake like once in a while, unlike mace or pepper spray. A bunch of girls at my college have a can, and my campus police officer swears by it. Just putting that out there because hey, you never know. Stay safe y’all 🌸

This is perfect because I’m not allowed to have pepper spray or a pocket knife or any other type of weapon on my work property, not even for self defense, mind you. (some girl even got fired for having pepper spray in the glove box in her car) but I get off late and there is no security guard at my late off hour, and a lot of the time I’m parking in overflow in the very back of the parking lot. Street lights not provided. I’m gonna pass this around to the ladies at my work. Thanks!
